Barn Wedding, Hudson Valley, July 2009

This was one of my favorite weddings from 2009. I say this about all of my weddings - every wedding is my favorite for different reasons. Michelle & Nick’s wedding was simply very pretty, relaxed and fun. Not to mention the local, seasonal and delicious menu. Look at these photos – the berries! Oliver Kita catered this wedding and what I love about Oliver (among many things) is that he presents his cuisine with cuisine as décor. The individual shortcakes replaced a wedding cake. The groom is a chef and he dressed and prepared porchetta (roasted heritage pork shoulder) with garlic and herbs and Oliver finished it off. Grilled skirt steak and wild striped bass were also served family style. Out of town guests were welcomed with amenity bags filled with bottled water, chips, local/ organic popcorn and local/organic chocolates from Lucky. We also included those sweet little candies that are wrapped in paper that looks like a strawberry – remember these? Linda Baldwin was the floral designer – the flowers were just so, so, so pretty! Linda took extra material from what the bride chose and I wrapped the favor jars with and turned it into a custom ring pillow – brilliant! We used kitchen towels from IKEA as napkins and Linda custom made table runners with fabric that Michelle picked-out. We also softened up the barn by hanging white fabric, sporadically throughout (curtains from IKEA). Linda also did an amazing job hanging tree branches with candles throughout the barn. The escort cards were hung from a chicken wire door from Charmed Places farm inventory. Michelle’s great friend Casey produced all of the print - http://www.caseycoyle.com/. Note cards replaced a guest book – found on Etsy. LOVE all of the bridal attire! Michelle’s Father displayed a beautiful slide show, featuring Michelle & Nick. When it came time to share the show with guests, we simply closed the barn doors and rolled down a screen I made by using a white sheet and bamboo dowels and had hung above the door with ribbon earlier in the day. Actual video screens should be saved for business conferences! Photos by Daniel Krieger http://www.danielkrieger.com/.
